Continue your tour of the small exhibition about the life of Teacher Andre.
Andre is the eighth of twelve children in his family. His parents died early, and with such a large family, he didn't receive much formal education, only knowing how to read and write a little.
After enduring many hardships and challenges in life, he felt a calling to join the Congregation of the Holy Cross, a school dedicated to teaching! He was appointed gatekeeper at Notre Dame School. After 40 years, he was transferred to care for the small St. Joseph's Chapel on Royal Hill. He lived a life of quiet prayer and especially sought the intercession of St. Joseph.
Saint, God has worked wonders through you. Thousands of people from all over flocked to you seeking advice, and patients from everywhere came to pray for healing… many were cured or overcame difficulties in life. People called you “The Healer”.
Through the extraordinary miracle of God and the intercession of Saint Joseph, the church was built into a magnificent chapel, and construction continued after his death. In 1955, the church was consecrated and given the title of St. Joseph's Basilica.
Visit the Christmas Museum with 330 nativity scenes created by artists from 130 countries around the world, including two works from Vietnam.
Afternoon visit to the Basilica. Basilique Notre Dame
The interior of the cathedral is one of the most impressive architectural works in the world, and is considered a masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture.
The church's dark blue dome is adorned with gilded stars, while the rest of the sanctuary is decorated in shades of blue, red, purple, silver, and gold.
Inside the church is a collection of hundreds of exquisitely carved statues. Unlike other churches, the stained glass windows on the walls do not depict the Bible but rather the religious history of Montreal.
In addition, the famous pipe organ by Casavant Freres, produced in 1891 with 4 keyboards and 7000 pipes, is also one of the highlights of the church.
